BERLIN I HE ROLE of the spleen in the control of production and destruction of erythrocytes in “hypersplenic” disease states is not well understood. The lack of a satisfactory experimental model in a large animal has handicapped laboratory investigations of hyperspienism. Effors to produce the syndrome by ligation of the spbenic vein or by anastomosis of the splenic vein to the inferior vena cava or renal vein resulted in the development of anemia in some studied,15 but not in others.68 Even when these procedures were successful, only a mild and relatively transient anemia was observed. Chronic oral administration of hydroxybamine to rats,9 administration of horse antirabbit marrow serum to rabbits,’#{176} and injection of silica into the splenic vein of the dog1’ produced complex pathologic manifestations with splenomegaly as only one component. The parenteral administration of such macromolecular substances as polyvinyl alcohol,’2 gum 3 pectin,13 n4 and methylcellubose13 , I 548

Influence of spleen on thrombocytopenia induced by humoral factor(s) of experimental hypersplenism.
I N A PREVIOUS communication’ evidence was presented for the existence of a humoral factor or factors FHF( s )] in rats with experimental methylcellulose-hypersplenism. The HF( s ) was shown to be eliminated with the urine of hypersplenic rats since such urine caused slight anemia and thrombocytopenia as low as 65 per cent of normal values when given intragastrically to normal rats. Similar adm...

I HE SYNDROME of hypersplenism is characterized by splenomegaly, selective or total blood cytopenias, normal or hyperplastic bone marrow, and disappearance of the cytopenias after splenectomy. The mechanism of the various forms of hypersplenism ( splenic thrombocytopenia, spenic anemia, splenic neutropenia, splenic pancytopenia ) is still under discussion. Clinical and experimental evidence has...
متن کاملInvestigation of the Effects of Methylcellulose and Carrageenan Use on Textural, Physicochemical and Sensory Characteristics of Chicken Nuggets
Backgrounds and Objectives: Chicken-based fried meat products are one of the most widely consumed ready-to-eat food products. Considering the importance of sensory and textural characteristics of these products in their acceptance by the consumers and effects of hydrocolloids on these characteristics, the overall purpose of this study was to investigate effects of methylcellulose and carrageena...
متن کاملA methodological approach for production and purification of polyclonal antibody against dog IgG
Antibodies are a class of biomolecules that has an important role in the immune system and lots of applications in biotechnological methods and in pharmaceutics. Production and purification of antibodies in laboratory animals is one of the first ways to manufacture of these prominent tools. The obtained antibodies from these process could be used in various types of bioassay techniques such as ...

Extended release formulation of alfuzosin, an a-antagonist used for prostatic hypertrophy, is available in market. It is convenient for older patients to take only one tablet a day. Marketed alfuzosin formulation is three layered geomatrix tablet that requires special facilities, high cost, more time and complex operation than normal direct compression formulation. Therefore, a less compl...
